After much speculation about which of the four current judges of American Idol will return to the show next season, it has been announced that Jennifer Hudson has made a deal to be one of the judges for season thirteen.
Academy Award winning singer and actress, Jennifer Hudson is a former contestant of American Idol. During season three Hudson won seventh place.
E News broke the story on Friday saying that numerous sources had confirmed that Hudson established a deal with American Idol. Jennifer Hudson would be the first former contestant to appear on the show as a judge. E News also reports that American Idol producers might also be trying to strike deals with former contestants Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken to appear on the show as judges for the next season.
Producers first suggested the idea of an alumni style judge panel during season nine after the show suffered some low ratings. Judges are normally announced in September when taped auditions begin. However, after Randy Jackson announced his resignation from the show, it has been assumed that none of the current judges- Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban will return to the judging table for season thirteen.
