The Food Bank For New York City has launched the Hurricane Sandy Food Stamp Replacement Notice in an effort to help those New Yorkers dependent on Food Stamps (SNAP) to recoup some of the losses from Hurricane Sandy. NYC residents receiving Food Stamps and residing in one of the 76 zip codes listed at the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance website(http://otda.ny.gov/news/SNAP-replacements.pdf) will automatically receive 50% of their October benefit amount added to their November benefit amount.
Those recipients who lost more than 50% of their food purchased using Food Stamps or who live outside those zip codes and lost food purchased using Food Stamps to flooding, extended power outages, or equipment failure, will be able to reclaim those benefits by filing a report at their local HRA Food Stamp Center. They must file by November 28, 2012. The Food Bank For New York City is available to offer Food Stamp recipients assistance and can be reached at (212) 894-8060.
In addition, Food Stamp recipients will be able to use benefits to purchase hot and/or prepared foods effective immediately and through November 30, 2012. The food must be purchased at authorized retailer locations that already accept EBT cards.
