An NYPD officer was injured early Monday morning when, according to authorities, a handcuffed man being escorted by two officers into the Harlem Hospital Center grabbed one officer’s gun and shot the other officer in the foot.

At 4:55 a.m., the two officers, Fausto Gomez and John Chiodi, responded to a complaint of a man causing a disturbance at Lexington Avenue and 117th Street. Gomez was shot when the alleged emotionally disturbed man, identified as Guiteau Idore, grabbed Chiodi’s gun and fired two shots. Gomez was treated for minor injuries and later released.

After being tackled by an EMT, Idore was immediately taken into custody for a medical evaluation.
