I am headed to the American Black Film Festival on South Beach in Miami this week as a guest of Cadillac. Among the exciting things happening at ABFF is the Cadillac Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Great activities are happening there, including “Meet the Filmmakers;” interviews with the cast of “The Best Man Holiday;” “A Rising Star;” featuring Boris Kodjoe and David Talbert; hors d’oeuvres in the VIP area; and “The Black Movie Trivia Challenge,” hosted by Anthony Anderson.

While most TV actresses relax on yachts in the south of France during their hiatus, “Soul Man” star Niecy Nash is hard at work promoting season two of the TV Land sitcom along with her new book, “It’s Hard to Fight Naked.”

In between appearances in Chicago, Nash gave yours truly a call with a few exclusive tidbits about “Soul Man.” In this season, the daughter is no longer on the show. She is off to college. Although the show will focus more on Nash and Cedric the Entertainer’s characters’ relationships, Ced’s brother, Sam, played by Wesley Jonathan, ends up moving in with them. Says Nash: “It’s better to see a sermon than to hear one preached.”

On June 16, the Jackson clan came together to celebrate Taj and Tayana Jackson’s wedding. Taj Jackson is the eldest of the 3T. His cousin Paris Jackson was not there. Although Taj’s Uncle Jermaine arrived after the couple exchanged their vows, 300 guests witnessed the nuptials at the family compound in Encino, Calif. Katherine; Joseph; Taj’s dad, Tito; Aunts La Toya and Rebbie; and cousins Blanket and Prince were all seen enjoying the ceremony. Despite reports that Paris would be released from the hospital in time for the wedding, she remained at UCLA Medical Center.

According to reports, Starz is going into business with 50 Cent. The premium cable network has picked up an original drama executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. “Power” revolves around James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a wealthy New York City nightclub owner who caters to the city’s elite. But Ghost is living a double life. When he’s not at the club, he’s the kingpin of the most lucrative city.

Nene Leakes and Cynthia Bailey went to Mexico recently for Leakes’ bachelorette party. They stayed at the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort. After checking in, Leakes and her posse dined at El Caribeno and were spotted poolside sipping on white wine and cocktails. The ladies later took in a Mexican show. Leakes was also recently a judge for the Miss USA Pageant.
