Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Department of Homeless Services are suing New York City Comptroller John Liu for rejecting two contracts to open two homeless shelters in the South Bronx and the Upper West Side in Manhattan. The Bloomberg administration argues that the comptroller is required to approve the contracts for the shelters. Liu said in a July 3 press release that he rejected the contracts due to missing information on the number of people who would be receiving the services.

Said Liu, “Transparency is paramount when sitting homeless shelters, and these contracts failed the test on many counts. Contracts need to be clear and specific to ensure that the DHS requires the vendor to stay within the parameters of the program.” The homeless shelters were contracted by Aguila Inc.
