New York Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released a new report showing that the economic and social conditions in the Bronx are improving. In the report, “An Economic Snapshot of the Bronx,” the comptroller found the Bronx added 240,000 residents between 1980 and 2012, and that the borough’s private sector employment grew by 7.7 percent between 2007 and 2012. The report also reported that the Bronx added new jobs in health care, social assistance, retail and food service between 2007 and 2012. However, the unemployment rate was 12.7 percent in 2012.
