Monroe Brown, beloved owner of True South Books, suffered an aneurysm shortly after the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman verdict came in. Brother Brown’s children Ajamu and Assatte Brown told the AmNews that their father is still in critical condition. However, upon hearing the news, the landlord gave them a week to get the hundreds of books out and changed the locks. But after a conversation, Ajamu Brown said the lease doesn’t until October, and they want to try and keep raising funds for rent and sell as many of the store’s books as possible. True South Books is located at 492 Nostrand Ave. at Halsey Street in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
