New York City candidate for public advocate Reshma Saujani received the endorsement of the Rev. Michael Walrond. Walrond serves as a board member of the National Action Network. Walrond is also a leader in the community who worked on getting the City Council to support the passage of the “living wage” bill. In a statement, Walrond said, “I support her vision because it will help our children realize their opportunities and keep our communities safe while still respecting the civil rights and liberties of all New Yorkers.”

Saujani co-created the White House Urban Entrepreneurship to assist people of color in building their own businesses and founded a nonprofit organization to equip girls with access to computer literacy skills. Saujani served as the deputy public advocate. Saujani is a graduate of Yale and Harvard with a South Asian background. Council Member Letitia James, New York state Sen. Daniel Squadron and professor Cathy Guerriero are also running in the New York City public advocate race.
