Fall is here and while clothes are always the focus every season with what’s in, eyewear is also taking center stage.
Like shoes, glasses are becoming more and more part of everyone’s total accessory package. Gone are the days of wearing just one pair for years and years.
The AmNews recently attended the Fall Focus Eyewear Showcase at Elegant Eyes in East Orange, N. J. The Black family-owned optical chain showcased several of the latest looks for fall from top designers including Linda Farrow and Thom Borwne.
Eyewear fashion experts and owners of Elegant Eyes, brother-sister team Cabral Miller and Utenzi Johnson, said that eyewear has become an important part of people’s look and gave some incite on what’s in this fall.
“Color still remains very big in eyewear,” Miller said. “Fashion trends are lending themselves toward really bold and exciting designs. People tend to want something that’s new, fresh, exciting and what they are not going to see everyday.”
Johnson added that round frames along with floral designs and stones are top trends.
“In terms of shapes for women, cat eyes are very dominant,” she said.
Miller and Johnson said that when customers come in to their store, buyers are looking for glasses that stand out. Many are purchasing multiple pairs and like to change their eyewear like their watches.
However, Miller said that when choosing the right frames, shape and form are important when it comes to getting the right look.
“One of the things I can’t stress enough to anyone looking for eyewear is that you must trust who you are being serviced by,” he said. “When you walk into an optical center you want someone who is going to direct their attention and their style to match and meet what your style is. You want the meeting of your style with fashion trends.”
Johnson said some designers to watch out for this season, when it comes to eyewear, include Tom Ford, Prada, Celine and Chanel.
