Harlem needs a healthy Harlem. This Saturday, Oct. 26, chef Marcus Samuelsson, owner of Red Rooster Harlem, will participate in For a Healthy Harlem, an event hosted by the Claudio Reyna Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The event will take place at the SCAN Johnson Rec Center, 1833 Lexington Ave., at 113th Street, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The mission of the Claudio Reyna Foundation is to inspire underserved youth in urban communities with positive experiences through soccer, education and community involvement in hopes of growing healthy bodies, minds and spirits. The foundation aims to combat childhood obesity by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and to break the cycle of poverty by stressing the importance of education.
The event aims to fight diabetes among at-risk communities with fitness and nutrition-focused activities. Marcus, an active member of the Harlem community, a New York Times bestselling author, judge on Food Network’s “Chopped” and mentor on ABC’s “The Taste,” will demo healthy snack and drink recipes.
For a Healthy Harlem guests can also participate in a soccer clinic with professional American soccer player Claudio Reyna and attend free health screenings. This family event is free for all to attend. Please visit www.forahealthyharlem.com for more information and to register.
