Roland Martin (47336)

Award-winning journalist Roland Martin is about to make history. When his new television show “News One Now” premieres on TVOne on Nov. 4, it will be the first daily morning show with an African-American focus.

Roland, 2013 Journalist of the Year award recipient from the National Association of Black Journalists, helms this new show on the heels of hosting TVOne’s other successful news show “Washington Watch.” The former CNN pundit intends to not only talk about the big headlines covered by mainstream news, but also topics particular to the African-American community, which typically get passed over by other news organizations.

“Our program will not only keep Black America abreast of major breaking news and hot-button issues, it will also shed light on peripheral stories that spotlight events and individuals making a concentrated, positive impact in our communities. Our audience can not only expect to be informed, but also enlightened and inspired,” said Martin.

Filling a glaring gap in the current cable news programming landscape, ‘News One Now’ builds off our success online. ‘News One Now’ extends our presence to a complete multiplatform experience where we can serve the African-American audience with news and analysis that is specially curated to suit their needs, concerns, interests and passions,” said Alfred Liggins, chairman of TV One and CEO and president of Radio One.

News One Now” will be multiplatform indeed. NewsOne.com has been online since 2008 and will continue to operate. The hour-long daily morning show, a significant social media presence, a phone app and a simulcast of the show on Radio One airwaves will ensure a truly multiplatform media experience for the audience.

Martin is not only going to head up a new show though; he has also inked a deal with TVOne via his media company Nu Vision Media. “News One Now” airs on TVOne on Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. EST.
