The Municipal Credit Union (MCU) is offering up to $66,000 in scholarships for college-bound high school seniors. The grants will be awarded in the form of eight memorial scholarship grants for $5,000 each and 13 grants for $2,000. There will be a special awards reception held to recognize the winners of the $5,000 scholarship.

MCU is the oldest credit union in New York and is eligible for New York City and Municipal employees; state and federal employees in all boroughs; health care professionals in the state; members of selected industry groups; employees of private colleges in New York City and private and public colleges in Nassau; Suffolk and Westchester; specific family members and qualifying retirees.

The scholarships are open to MCU members and a child or grandchild of a MCU member who is in good standing. Applicants are selected based on their academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, letters of recommendation and an essay explaining their personal goals.

“MCU is deeply committed both to giving back to our community and investing in our young people and their education,” said Kam Wong, MCU President and CEO. “We hope our scholarships will enable these students to achieve their goals and succeed in their future endeavors.” The credit union opened its harlem branch on April 2, 2012.

Students who are MCU members will automatically be entered into a $500 statewide Public Relations and Marketing Council Scholarship. The application deadline is January 31, 2014. Applications are available at MCU’s Harlem Branch located on 280 St. Nicholas Avenue New York, NY 10027 and online at
