LIFE Camp., Man Up! and civil rights activist Tamika D. Mallory kicked off New York City’s fourth annual Peace Week on the steps of City Hall on Jan. 15. Among the participants were Erica Ford, president and founder of LIFE Camp; A.T. Mitchell, founder of Man Up!; Mallory; Council Members Jumaane Williams, Daneek Miller and Ruben Wills; Russell Simmons; and families who lost their children to violence. The collective called upon every politician, community leader and activist to join the cause by taking a pledge to create “peace as a lifestyle.” All attendees were encouraged to wear orange, the universal color for peace.

Peace Week runs Jan. 15-22 with the purpose of helping the lives of every person impacted by violence by emphasizing the need to making peace a lifestyle. On each day of Peace Week, there will be events held that will educate people on the effects of violence and the importance of helping each other heal emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Each event will have a target audience of different ages. For more information, email rachel@noerdlingermedia.com.
