Chief Strategy and Operating Officer of United Way of New York City (UWNYC) and longtime resident of Brooklyn Elwanda Young is retiring. Besides serving the post for 22 years, Young is also currently serving on the transition team for newly elected Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. Young’s efforts have addressed 9/11, the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Sandy, as well as meeting the day-to-day challenges inherent in the not-for-profit environment. She has been the chief supporter for not only UWNYC, but also for the work of United Way Worldwide. A reception is being held in her honor at the Broad Street Ballroom.
