The Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC) is holding its 31st annual conference at Essex County College in Newark, N.J., on Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 16. The conference is being hosted by ASCAC Eastern Region and the Essex College Africana Institute. The theme of the conference is “Ancestral Wisdom: Restoring and Transmitting Maat From Sp Tpy (The First Time).” An opening reception will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 15.

Speakers include ASCAC President Dr. Mario Beatty, associate professor of Africana studies at Howard University, and Dr. Leonard Jeffries, former chairman of the Black studies department at City College of New York who serves as chairperson of the Council of Elders.
