The great and powerful Oz knew the marketing magic of anticipation. The arduous journey to the land of wisdom was littered with characters, and if they had social media, they would have documented the trippy yellow brick road adventure and submitted it to the Tribeca Film Festival #6SecFilms competition.

The 13th annual Tribeca Film Festival’s (TFF) #6SecFilms jurors—Jerome Jarre, Tiffany Shlain, Julie Klausner, James Curleigh and Bethann Hardison—selected four winners from a shortlist of 40 Vines curated by TFF programmers and narrowed those down from a field of 536 total entries from 24 countries.

A fifth winner was selected by an online voting audience of 6,000 in the first ever #6SecFilms Audience Choice award, powered by Pitch’d, a platform for brands to curate their audience’s videos and photos across social networks by hashtags and facilitate voting to find the most popular ones.

The winning creators will each receive individual meetings with GrapeStory, the mobile-first marketing agency and production house founded by Gary and A.J. Vaynerchuk of VaynerMedia, a social-first digital shop and #6SecFilms juror Jarre, a serial entrepreneur with more than 4.6 million passionate Vine followers.

The myNewYorkeye team was invited to meet the winners at the TFF and ESPN party thrown at the M1-5 lounge on Walker Street. The top shelf open bar wasn’t the coolest part of the evening; nope—it was hanging out with the winners, who are listed below:

TFF Director of Programming Genna Terranova embraces new media, acknowledging it as a viable platform for emerging artists. “When we launched the #6SecFilms competition at last year’s TFF, Vine was brand-new, and many creators were just beginning to get their hands dirty. A year later, there is more mastery of the platform, and the increased creativity and quality of stories is apparent,” she said.
