Africa Day is the annual commemoration on May 25 of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity. On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The New York celebration of Africa Day was celebrated at midtown’s Manhattan Center on Friday, May 23. This year’s theme, “Year of Agriculture and Food Security,” dealt with Africa’s developing self-sustaining food production.
