Memorial services were held for late radio producer and National Action Network (NAN) crisis department leader Joseph Dennis “J.D.” Livingston. Best remembered for his signature saying, “Thank you for your kindness,” a host of friends, family politicians and community leaders attended the event to pay tribute to the activist, communicator and producer.

Famed radio host Imhotep Gary Byrd, who was a longtime friend of Livingston, put together and hosted the program. Guests who paid tribute to Livingston included the Rev. Al Sharpton, Amsterdam News Editor Nayaba Arinde, former Council Member Charles Barron, Council Member Inez Barron, the Rev. Herbert Daughtry, State Seneator Bill Perkins, Joyce Owens, Vinette K. Pryce and Drs. Leonard and Rosalind Jeffries.

Professor James Smalls gave the libation, and musical performances were offered by flutist Bobbi Humphrey, Sheps Hetep Ancestral Music Drummers, trumpeter Joey Morant, the Williams Sisters and the Rev. Dr. Ben Monroe.

Livingston died on March 14, succumbing to cancer. He is best remembered for his service to the community as NAN’s crisis manager for 15 years. As a radio producer, Livingstone worked with Byrd on “Express Yourself” and “The GBE Mind Flight.” The two were friends for over 25 years.
