This week, the New York County Democratic Committee held its second annual Demmy Awards. New York County Leader Keith L.T. Wright hosted.

New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli received the Big Apple Award. Tamika Mallory received the Heart of New York Award for her dedication to gun violence awareness. Democratic Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins was honored with the Courage Award. Robert J. Levinsohn was posthumously bestowed with the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Award. Michael McGuire and Suzy Ballantyne were given the Labor Award for their contributions to the Mason Tenders District Council of Greater New York and the New York State American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, respectively.

David Rhodes received the Spirit of New York Award for his exemplary work as president of the School of Visual Arts. Zenaida Mendez was granted the Bella Abzug Award for her fearless activism and the expansion of women’s rights throughout New York state.

Performers included impressionist Reggie Brown, comedian Gary Gulman, the Dance Theatre of Harlem and entertainer Doug E. Fresh.
