Medgar Evers College (38923)

The Medgar Evers College “Focus on Ferguson … and Beyond” town hall meeting will give the college community an opportunity to reflect on the latest tragic incidents and determine strategies for reforming the relationship between communities of color and law enforcement. The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Edison O. Jackson Auditorium–AB-1 Building at the college.

Discussions will focus on the lethal encounters that occur between communities of color and law enforcement, as well as the all-too-frequent deadly violence that occurs between members of these same communities. Respect, reflection and resolution for change will be the keynotes of the event.

Council Member Laurie Cumbo will offer remarks, and a panel discussion will be moderated by Esmeralda Simmons, Esq., executive director of the Medgar Evers College Center for Law and Social Justice, with panelists that will include representatives of the Medgar Evers College Student Government Association, the Medgar Evers College Law Pathways Program, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and the office of the Brooklyn district attorney.

The town hall meeting is being sponsored by the Public Administration Department, in cooperation with the Center for Law and Social Justice.
