The 25th New York City Basketball Hall of Fame class will be inducted Sept. 16 at the New York Athletic Club, located at 59th Street and Central Park West.
The inductees were named to this year’s class by the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame Selection Advisory Committee, which stands alone from the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Directors. It is this committee, by their collective vote, that has determined every year since 1990 the players, coaches and contributors to the game we all love. The committee consists of some 25 men and women.
The borough of Brooklyn has more than 65 former players who call the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame their legendary home, as they number more inductees than any other borough in this great city.
This year’s class of inductees will be proudly escorted to the podium by a “former New York City Basketball Hall of Fame inductee on Induction Night.” This year’s class of players includes Craig “Speedy” Claxton, Felipe Lopez, Mike Riordan and Charlie Davis.
The late Columbia University coach Jack Rohan will be inducted and remembered by those great Lions teams that featured Jim McMillian and Heywood Dotson. Hugh Evans, one of the great NBA officials of his time, will also be inducted, joining fellow NBA officials Dick Bavetta, Manny Sokal and Lee Jones, among others.
