Celebrating its seventh season, Emerge! honored iconic model Beverly Johnson with its Fashion Innovator Award and introduced seven aspiring fashion designers from around the world. These talented designers showcased artistic collections that powered down the runway during New York Fashion Week. Emerge! is one of the top designer collectives that presents designer showcases during this special time in New York. More than 500 guests attended their amazing show.

Each season, Emerge! presents the coveted Fashion Innovator Award to some of the most recognized faces in the fashion industry. This season’s award was presented to Johnson for her work as one of the first African-Americans to grace the covers of top magazines, including her fabulous Vogue cover.

J. Alexander of “America’s Next Top Model” presented the award to Johnson. One of the highlights of the Sept. 9 evening was when Johnson and Alexander strutted down the runway. The audience went wild!

This season’s brands included Danny Nguyen Couture, Michael Alan Stein, Tina Marie Style, Seanna Sharpe, Eaden Myles and ZhiZhu Fashion. The show, produced by D. Williams Public Relations Group, provided an opportunity for these new designers to show their fashions on a national stage. “Each collection by the designers was extremely beautiful and exciting,” said Emerge! creator Dionne Williams, president of D. Williams.

The designers put on a spectacular show. The clothes were impeccably tailored and extremely fashionable. Stein is a costume designer and the chief fashion designer of the eponymous Michael Alan Stein collection. The line focuses on prestige, ready-to-wear women’s apparel. Celebrated artists such as the late Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Jane Seymour, Erykah Badu, Jennifer Holiday and Elizabeth Berkley have worn Michaels’ designs.

Tina Hughes offers an extensive knowledge of textiles through her line, Tina Marie. She creates fashions with an expert eye for juxtaposition and a thorough understanding of economics. Hughes designs for a woman who loves thoughtful details, intriguing silhouettes, nostalgic whimsy and modern quirks. Her goal is to make each design revolve around natural and organic textiles. Her clothes are made in the United States. In her collection, you notice the importance of having staple items around which to build your wardrobe.

Eaden Myles illuminates innovation in the 21st century of men’s fashion. He offers a one-stop shop for well-made, well-tailored suits and accessories that complement a unique structure. The Eaden Myles collection is a European-inspired, high-fashion, high-quality line in men’s suits. Custom fits that compliment body types seemed important to this designer.

Seannea Sharpe traveled to 26 countries before finding her home base in New York City. Her collection was inspired by her international travels. Several celebrities, including Beyonce and the Roots, wear her clothes. Sharpe now runs Urban Circus in New York City, a circus school, a cutting-edge company and not-for-profit kids program that offers a full spectrum of performance, production and education skills.
