After rushing for a career-high 125 yards against Fayetteville State University this past Saturday, Virginia State University senior running back Louis “Trey” Johnson was awarded the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Offensive Back of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 28.

This is Johnson’s second consecutive week receiving honors from the conference office this season after being named Rookie of the Week last week.

The Richmond, Va., native averaged 5.4 yards per carry and scored on a three-yard touchdown run to help lift the Trojans past the Broncos, 35-14.

He is ranked 11th in the league, with 52.2 yards per game, and tied for third in rushing touchdowns with two.

Virginia State returns to action Saturday, Oct. 4, when they host St. Augustine University at 2 p.m. in Rogers Stadium for Breast Cancer Awareness and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.

The VSU Athletic Department continues its “1000 Cans, One Goal” campaign initiative at every home game through Friday, Nov. 21. The purpose of the initiative is to support the local food banks in helping feed the less fortunate during the holiday season. Donors are asked to either bring canned goods to any VSU home game (football, basketball, volleyball or cross-country) or drop the items off to the Athletic Department.
