Shirley Chisholm Day is being celebrated with an event at Brooklyn College Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. The event marks the 50th anniversary of Chisholm’s election to the New York State Assembly. The Rev. Al Sharpton will serve as keynote speaker. The annual event is organized by the Shirley Chisholm Project of Brooklyn Women’s Activism at Brooklyn College. Chisholm was the first African-American woman elected to Congress, as well as the first to mount a serious campaign for the Democratic Party nomination for president of the United States. The event will take place at the Brooklyn College Student Center, located at 1 Campus Rd., Gold Room, 6th Floor.
