NEW YORK (Jan. 8)—Legendary American R&B sibling group the Pointer Sisters and singer-songwriter Peter Cetera have been added to the lineup of the 19th Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, slated for the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium Jan. 29 to 31.

Walter Elmore, producer of the festival, believes the latest additions will bring great energy and international appeal to the event, which has already secured Grammy-winning American singer Mariah Carey.

“The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival … is built on the art of music, and with these sensational acts, the festival is even more attractive in terms of the diversity and quality on display. You have to find ways of being fresh and creative in terms of your lineup, and I think this blend that we have put together so far will excite patrons from multiple markets,” said Elmore.

Also booked for the three-day festival are Canadian reggae fusion band Magic! and former lead singer of American group the Gap Band, Charlie Wilson.

The three-time Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters achieved mainstream success throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Their hits include “I’m So Excited,” “Automatic,” “Jump (For My Love)” and “Neutron Dance,” which was featured in the film “Beverly Hills Cop.”

Cetera, a former front man for the group Chicago, is known for hits such as “Glory of Love” and “No Explanation,” which were featured in “The Karate Kid II” and “Pretty Woman,” respectively.

The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is one of the Caribbean’s premier music festivals and one of the most anticipated events on Jamaica’s entertainment calendar. Organizers report that the festival welcomes more than 25,000 patrons each year, including more than 6,000 visitors to the island.
