The family of an unarmed Black man fatally shot by police in a Brooklyn housing project says they have faith that the DA will bring the case to justice.

Reports indicate that the family of Akai Gurley met with Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson about the police shooting that took place in November. Gurley was shot by an NYPD officer in the Pink Houses in the East New York section of Brooklyn. Gurley was walking down the steps in the building and a rookie cop, Peter Liang, shot the 28-year-old father. The officer and the NYPD claim that the shooting was an accident.

“We have faith in Ken Thompson,” said Kim Ballinger, Gurley’s domestic partner.

The family’s attorney, Scott Rynecki, said he and the family are “very comforted” that Thompson met with the family and is conducting a thorough investigation.
