“Circus Xtreme” is the current offering from Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, and it is extreme—an extremely good time for all! Make sure to arrive early because once you pick up your tickets, you are invited to come onto the floor as long as it is one hour before the performance for the preshow. During that time, families are welcome to try on circus costumes, take pictures with performers and see jugglers, clowns, aerialists and a circus elephant. This year’s circus also features a BMX act with bikers doing fun tricks. Those riders even teach children in the audience how to do some of the tricks!

Once the circus starts, it will definitely be an engaging thrill ride. Camels and tightrope walkers will take your breath away as you watch them perform high above the ring without a net for safety. A woman is shot from an enormous cannon. Mongolian strong men are there to impress. There are trained elephant acts, sirens of the sea and ladies high above the ring performing in huge rings, doing splits and spins, bending and balancing. It’s all a fantastic thing to experience.

When you think of “extreme,” the tiger act definitely fulfills your expectations, featuring one man alone with 15 enormous tigers, who has them jumping, rolling over and walking on two legs. There are also very cute dog acts—I had to smile as the dogs performed a conga line.

This is a circus worth going to. Go, have fun, but remember, get there for the preshow so your family can feel like stars. The show runs March 12 to March 15  at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. For more information, visit www.ringling.com.
