Community members and local leaders came together at Therapy Wine Bar in Brooklyn for “Coffee With Nayaba Arinde” last Saturday.
Arinde, who is editor of the New York Amsterdam News, spoke with community members and discussed various issues. The event was live streamed on amsterdamnews.com via YouTube (http://amsterdamnews.com/news/2015/mar/12/amnews-editor-nayaba-arinde-meets-community-therap) and included a conversation with Assemblyman Charles Barron, the Rev. Herbert Daughtry and Nation of Islam’s Derek Muhammad, along with staff members of the AmNews.
Topics discussed included race relations in the city, the recent viral video of a brawl among teen girls at a Brooklyn McDonald’s restaurant, Black political progress in the 21st century, community responsibility across the board and police brutality.
Arinde also announced the soft launch of her breast cancer survivors support group, Square Circles (Square Circles1@gmail.com), and said she hopes to host another meet and greet event with the community in the future to engage in conversation.
