Justice League NYC officially announced the group’s April 13 March2Justice, with honorary co-chairs Harry Belafonte and 1199 SEIU President George Gresham. The march will begin in New York City and cross five states, traveling more than 250 miles, in an effort to garner support for and deliver a “Justice Package” directly to Congress members in Washington, D.C.
The Justice Package consists of legislation that, if passed, would result in significant policy reforms and bring about systemic changes by ending racial profiling, by demilitarizing our police forces and by shifting juvenile justice from institutionalization to prevention.
Marchers will stop in key cities and towns along the route for local rallies and mobilizations before gathering to call on Congress to pass the three critical pieces of legislation.
“We must ensure we continue to work towards significant and meaningful policy changes to end racial profiling and create law enforcement accountability, stop the militarization of our local law-enforcement agencies and demand the government invest in our communities,” said March2Justice co-chair and activist Tamika Mallory.
