Design Entrepreneurs NYC has a call out for all designers with their own labels to participate in a free, intensive “min-MBA” program that will be held at the Fashion Institute of Technology beginning May 28. Applications are being accepted now through April 7. This program will educate emerging New York City-based designers and teach them how to run a successful business.

DENYC will offer emerging designers in-depth courses and one-on-one assistance on marketing, public relations, operations and financial management within the fashion industry. For DENYC participants with outstanding business plans to further implement the skills and plans they develop over the course of the program, there’s a $150,000 award.

DENYC was created through a partnership between the New York City Economics Development Corporation and FIT in 2011. Qualified designers must have their businesses based in one of New York City’s five boroughs, and their business must have been in operation for at least one year. Taught by FIT faculty and other industry professional, there will be classes in business marketing, operations and financial management. The Style Theory Workshop, held by Tameka Raymond, will hit New York City May 16. Raymond is the celebrity wardrobe stylist and founder of the Style Theory Tour. Part of the proceeds from the tour will benefit Kiles World Foundation, which focuses on art education for youth ages 8 to 17. With Raymond’s glamour squad of top style and beauty professionals, the workshop will include budgeting, fashion faux pas, protective and natural hair-styling tips, stylist versus personal shopper trends, proper makeup application, displaying professionalism, identifying clientele and keys to being your best self.

“Having worked with celebrities for more than two decades, I understand how important style and beauty is, both on the inside and out,” said Raymond. “The fashion and beauty industries have gained mainstream attention, thanks to popular culture, and our goal with the Style Theory Tour is to equip our stylish attendees with information in a fun, engaging and empowering environment that will propel their personal style, clients and friends alike.”

Raymond sets out to focus on inner- and outer-beauty.
