Grammy-award winning R&B singer Brandy Norwood is set to join the cast of the musical Chicago in her Broadway debut.
Norwood will play the role of Roxie Hart starting April 28 in an 8-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre through June 21.
Chicago currently stars Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart and Carly Hughesas Velma Kelly. Beginning March 30, Emmy Award nominee Paige Davis begins a 4-week engagement as Roxie Hart (through April 27) and international stage star Amra-Faye Wright returns to the company as Velma Kelly (through July 26).
The musical also currently stars Tony Award nominee John Dossett as Billy Flynn,Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Selling more than 40 million albums worldwide, Norwood started her career in 1994 with her multi-platinum self-titled debut album featuring the hit single “I Wanna Be Down.” Her record “The Boy Is Mine” is the longest running number-one song and best-selling duet of all time.
As an actress, she starred in her own sitcom, “Moesha,” and in the television film of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, alongside her icon the late Whitney Houston. She recently received a 2014 NAACP Image Award for her role as Chardonnay on BET’s “The Game.”
Chicago is now the No. 1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history and plays a weekly schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at 8 pm; Saturday at2:30 pm and 8 pm; Sunday at 2:30 pm and 7 pm.
