The U.S. Fund for UNICEF celebrates the New York launch of UNICEF Kid Power, with former NBA All-Star and New York Knicks legend John Starks, at the Young Diplomats Magnet Academy in Harlem.
Kid Power is an innovative child health initiative rolling out this month in New York City, Boston and Dallas that encourages elementary school children to get physically active to help save the lives of their peers in developing countries.
In New York, 3,600 students from 16 schools across all five boroughs are participating in the month-long program and raising funds so that UNICEF—the world’s largest purchaser and distributor of ready-to-use therapeutic food—can provide lifesaving nutrition to severely malnourished children around the world. The event at the Young Diplomats Magnet Academy will feature students in grades three to five engaging in fitness activities with John Starks.
Beginning this month, 10,500 elementary school students in New York, Boston and Dallas are monitoring their physical activity with UNICEF Kid Power bands that display the number of steps taken and number of points earned.
