As parents and students look at options for higher education, historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are often times in the conversation.

However, many Black families are misinformed by high school counselors and administrators about scholarships offered by HBCUs. The misconception is that Black students are more likely to get more money from predominantly white institutions.

In a recent article in the Chicago Sun-Times, a Black mother reported that her son’s charter school discouraged him from applying to HBCUs. School officials cited he would not receive enough scholarship money from a Black college.

Below is a partial list of HBCUs that offer full scholarships.
