April 8, MYX Fusion Moscato participated in the Summer Sizzle BVI 2015 Launch Party at the Ricco Maresca Gallery in New York City. Fox’s “Empire” stars Taraji P. Henson and Jussie Smollett hosted the launch party and indulged in the refreshing natural flavors of MYX Moscato, Peach and Mango throughout the night. Fashion and media influencers in attendance included Demetria Lucas D’Oyley from “Blood, Sweat and Heels” and many more. The seventh annual Summer Sizzle BVI event, which will be hosted by Henson, takes place July 23-27 in the British Virgin Islands. Meanwhile, Henson made her “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut with musical guests Mumford and Sons April 11.
Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy has been tapped by the Kennedy Center to receive this year’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The award will be presented Oct. 18 at a Kennedy Center event to be taped for later broadcast. A gaggle of top entertainers are expected to assemble for the celebratory roasting and video clip-a-thon of the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member and box office icon. The award, in its 18th year, is the centerpiece of an expanding emphasis on showcasing comedy at the Kennedy Center.
According to reports, rapper and reality star Nelly is facing felony drug charges after being arrested in Tennessee April 11. When state troopers searched his tour bus, they found five rocks that tested positive for meth, as well as a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Troopers also say they found numerous handguns. Nelly was released on $10,000 bond.
RLJ Entertainment and Urban Movie Channel recently hosted a private screening of the upcoming film “Blackbird” in Atlanta. Directed by Patrick-Ian Polk, the film stars Academy Award winner Mo’Nique, Isaiah Washington and Julian Walker. A mix of VIPs, press and influencers packed the theater at Midtown Art Cinema to preview the much talked about film and sit in on a Q&A with Mo’Nique and Sidney Hicks, who are also the film’s executive producers, as well as cast members D. Woods and Torrey Lamar. Attendees included comedian Rodney Perry, Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Meelah Williams, Bobby Valentino and more. “Blackbird” opens April 24.
Grammy-nominated R&B crooner Freddie Jackson will appear at B.B.
