Students, faculty, alumni and the community came together to remember Medgar Evers College dean Dr. Derrick Griffith at a candlelight vigil on the campus.
Griffith, 42, was among the eight people killed in the derailment of Amtrak 188 on Tuesday traveling from Washington D.C. to New York.
Serving as Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management for MEC, Griffith was granted a Doctorate of Philosophy in Urban Education by the CUNY Graduate Center just a month ago. He was suppose to graduate in June.
Funeral arrangements for Griffith have not yet been announced.
