I am excited to announce that I have been promoted to food editor for the Amsterdam News. A big thank you to our publisher, Elinor Tatum, for the forum and opportunity and to my editor and friend, Kristin Fayne-Mulroy, for suggesting I “write just one piece” in 2004 and then at least one more every week after that for the next 520 weeks … and counting.
This year marks my 10th year writing the “Recipes & Reviews” page for the Amsterdam News. In that time, I have covered restaurants, chefs, events and more in Harlem, New York City and beyond. In that time, Harlem’s food scene has expanded exponentially from north to south and east to west. We must grow with it. Introducing “Recipes & Reviews 2.0,” now called AmNewsFOOD!
AmNewsFOOD plans to update the legacy of this century-old publication with a collective of seasoned perspectives on food and beverages, hospitality and service, both of and for the community it serves. There is much we want to cover through special events, unique content creation and social media, advertising and online and offline promotions.
We are looking first for you food writers, and then you video production and social media and events specialists, to represent all parts of the Harlem and New York City food scene. It takes a village (literally). Please send writing samples of 400 words or less to AmNewsFOOD@ischop.com with your resume and your thoughts on how your unique perspective can contribute to the conversation about food and hospitality in your community.
Please follow us on Twitter and Instagram @NYAmNewsFOOD and our contributions to the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NYAmsterdamNews. Thank you!
