Thursday May 2, Assemblywoman Annette Robinson (56th A.D., Brooklyn) held a community forum to discuss mental health in the community at Restoration Plaza. The forum was designed to open the discussion between community residents and health and mental-health professionals about identifying and treating those with mental health concerns. Speakers at the event included Acting Supreme Court Justice Carolyn Wade, Dr. Sajitha Sutton from Interfaith Hospital, Dr. Torian Easterling, head of the Brooklyn Public Health Center, Allison Horan, chief of staff to Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, chair of the Assembly Mental Health Committee, Dr. Craig Crabtree from the Cumberland Diagnostic and Treatment Center and William Green, CEO of the Paul J. Cooper Center for Adult Services. The forum was moderated my Cheryl Donald, founder of the Brooklyn Marriage & Family Therapy Center. Speakers provided a wealth of information on the critical nature of mental health issues and the services that are available through their respective organizations.
