After battling an illness, wonderful educator Ollie McClean passed away May 26. The founder/director of Sankofa International Academy in Brooklyn, Sister Ollie was a community icon and civil rights leader who dedicated her life to the betterment of people of African ancestry, especially the children. Her private, independent African-centered school is in its 30th year of existence.

The wake is Tuesday, June 2, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Woodward Funeral Home, 1 Troy Ave., Brooklyn, and the funeral is Wednesday, June 3 at Concord Baptist Church of Christ, 833 Marcy Ave., Brooklyn. Viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the service is at 10 a.m.
