Two months after “Empire” wrapped its rookie season, writers of the Fox drama on May 29 announced via Twitter the show’s return date of Sept. 23. “Empire” is expected to air something of a split season during the 2015-2016 campaign, with at least half of the show’s planned 18 episodes saved for 2016. The soap became appointment viewing during the course of its 12-episode run and finished as the season’s No. 1 broadcast entertainment series in the 18 to 49 coveted demographic.

Raptress Nicki Minaj was spotted on the set of “Barbershop 3,” filming on location around Atlanta. Minaj portrays a hairdresser named Draya in the upcoming flick. This is her second movie role. She was also featured in “The Other Woman,” which starred Cameron Diaz. “Barbershop 3” was also scheduled to shoot at an Atlanta nightclub.
Tongues are wagging that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are expecting their second child. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” reality star made the announcement on the show’s mid-season finale May 31. “I just got the blood test back,” Kardashian tells her sister Khloe. “I am pregnant.” The new baby will join Kimye’s almost 2-year-old daughter North.
Harlem’s Apollo Theater’s Spring Gala 2015 benefit concert will feature diverse performances by celebrated artists who have all previously graced the theater’s stage and who reflect the Apollo’s commitment to providing a platform for all musical genres. Performers include pop-funk and dance musician-producer Nile Rodgers, who will headline the event, along with his pioneering disco-funk group Chic, Grammy-winning R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo, R&B singer Luke James, celebrated South African a capella trio the Soil and up-and-coming rock singer Kimberly Nichole. The Spring Gala will take place Monday, June 8 at 7 p.m. Proceeds will support the organization’s artistic and community programming. Tickets for the event are now available.
