Hundreds of people came out to celebrate sterling pioneering educator Ollie McClean, who passed away Tuesday, May 26. The beloved activist was the founder and director of the independent Sankofa International Academy, which has educated young minds for 30 years. The viewing and wake were held June 2 and June 3 at Brooklyn’s Woodward Funeral Home and Concord Baptist Church of Christ, respectively.
The community icon was laid to rest in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
