Education for a Better America and the New York Amsterdam News are partnering to award two high school students scholarships to help with educational expenses in their first year of college.

The scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors graduating in 2015 from the tristate area who have been accepted by a four-year college or university.

Applicants must be graduating from high school in spring 2015, be able to verify enrollment in a four-year college or university for fall 2015 (i.e., acceptance letter) and write an essay of no more than 750 words that addresses the following questions:

• Why should you be awarded a scholarship to go to college?

• What community service have you completed, and how do you plan to use your studies to achieve your future plans to serve the community?

• How will this scholarship help you reach your academic and career goals?

Applications must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. (EDT), Friday, July 10. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The announcement of the awards will be made during the first week of August.
