A special dedication ceremony was held at the African Burial Ground National Monument in lower Manhattan for the Dr. Maya Angelou Limited Edition Forever Stamp, Thursday, Aug. 20. Notables in attendance included Mayor David Dinkins, Jacqueline McMickens, Susan Taylor, the Rev. Johnny Ray Youngblood, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, State Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Jane Tillman Irving (mistress of ceremonies), Shirley McKinney (superintendent, African Burial Ground) and Rachel Robinson (widow of Jackie Robinson).
Sponsors included Ebony Society of Philatelic Events and Reflections and the United States Postal Service.
