A couple from Leeds, in Northern England, has recently published their first children’s book after months of hard work and dedication. Carey Black, 27, and Kia Mills, 26, officially launched their book, “The Loorikeet: Breakfast in the Rainforest” Sept. 18. Not only have they produced their first book together but they are also the owners of Blacks Publishing, the company that published the book. The twosome, who have been together for more than eight years, are very excited about their new business venture and hope to introduce their children’s books to schools and nurseries nationwide.

The couple revealed how their love for writing children’s books was not just an idea they had recently but stems from childhood influences. “For myself, I’ve always enjoyed children’s books,” stated Black. “My mother would always read to me as a child. I’ve always remembered the feeling of a nighttime read with my mother, and it was a major part of my life. I also have a lot of experience working with children. So in my adult years, I’ve been able to read a number of children books and get the opportunity to see what it is that children really respond to.”

Mills has always had a passion for drawing and is the book’s illustrator.

The book, which is intended for 3 to 6-year-olds, will engage its audience through fun fact pages and information points and also activity pages.
