The National Black Church Initiative is calling for the creation of a $25 million fund to help combat police brutality in the African-American community.
The Black community in 2015 can no longer trust law enforcement after the horrific incidents of the Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases.
According to a press release, the purpose of the fund is to allow investigators to be hired to verify the evidentiary findings. For the first time, this intiative will give the Black community the ability and access to respond scientifically and systematically to questionable evidence involving African-Americans within the court of law.
“We must do something bold using a strategic and results-oriented approach to eradicate disparities of justice,” stated the Rev. Anthony Evans, president of the National Black Church Initiative.
This targeted initiative is why the Innocence Project, headed by Berry Shack, has been able to exonerate more than 100 African-American males on death row. Similarly, it will allow us to create innovative investigative techniques to finally close cold cases of loved ones in our community.
The NBCI is a coalition of 34,000 African-American and Latino churches working to eradicate racial disparities in healthcare, technology, education, housing and the environment. NBCI’s mission is to provide critical wellness information to all of its members, congregants, churches and the public.
The NBCI is willing to work with the National Bar Association to create the apparatus necessary to launch such an ambitious program. They need 300,000 African-Americans to send in a email to DCBCI2002@gmail.com saying these simple words: “We will stand with you.” They ask that you send in at least $50 to start the process of generating this important fund.
