Interfaith Medical Center gives Thanksgiving to community residents and some community groups. Retired Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns and Gwendolyn Forbes Towns joined Sharonnie Perry, director of community relations, and Aylan Dawkins, president of the Interfaith Medical Center Auxiliary, along with other behind the scenes staff of Interfaith Medical Center, in sharing beautiful gift baskets and shopping gift cards during the Thanksgiving season. In cooperation with Food Town Market in the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, 75 Interfaith Medical Center clinic patients and neighbors received $100.00 food shopping cards provided by the auxiliary on Nov. 23, 2015. A number of additional families received the overflowing gift baskets prepared by Dawkins, as well as a turkey.
Edolphus Towns has a long association with the hospital while both in and out of elective office. Gwendolyn Forbes Towns served as president of the auxiliary and director of the lobby gift shop before retiring and turning the reins over to Dawkins.
The group is now turning it’s attention to special treats for area preschool and school children at the Winter Wonderland, with a visit by Santa Claus, as well as a Secret Santa Day for needy adults in the hospital’s surrounding communities.
