Monday marks the first day of trial of NYPD Officer Peter Liang for the killing of Akai Gurley on November 20, 2014 in NYCHA Louis H. Pink Houses in East New York, Brooklyn.
Three months after the incident, Liang was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on charges of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and other lesser charges. Gurley’s family is being joined by dozens of community supporters who said they will pack the court throughout the trial.
The family will speak out at press conference Monday afternoon to share their reflections and their hopes for accountability of Liang and the NYPD.
