For Valentine’s Day, or any special occasion, Hasna Muhammad, daughter of actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, has introduced a beautiful greeting card collection that features extraordinary quotes from her mother. The collection features three groups of five cards with 16 envelopes. Each set of cards offers three quotes from the legendary actress. The company, Crumb Navigation, is now offering a special: You can order a box of cards on their site plus a ceramic mug for $38. The cards alone are $30. For love’s sake, it’s a lovely gift!
A writer, photographer and filmmaker, Muhammad is known for her non-fiction works about family, social justice and education, She is currently working on “Places to Stand,” a collection of photographic essays about growing up in her parents’ home. She admits to being “strong willed, adventurous and independent.”
These cards are a nice way to get some of her mother’s messages out in the world. The three quotes by Dee are thought-provoking. On card No. 60, she states, “You know you are getting old when ordinary things seem like miracles.” For card No. 68, she says, ”Love is when you begin to understand the logic of forgiveness.” Card No. 70 reads, “We who know enough about the past know enough to hope.”
