Moore, SC (WHNS) — An Upstate teacher is off the job after school officials say he sent inappropriate text messages to a student. Now sheriff’s deputies are investigating the matter.
The parents of an R.D. Anderson student told school officials on Feb. 10 about texts to their daughter.
“After reviewing the text messages, we immediately contacted law enforcement to begin an investigation,” Sherri Yarborough, director of R.D. Anderson Applied Technology Center, said in a statement.
Yarborough said that the teacher resigned after he was told that school officials would recommend his termination.
“Our employees are properly trained on the appropriate ways to communicate with and interact with students. They are also trained on the consequences of not following those procedures,” Yarborough said.
She said that the school is working with law enforcement on the on-going investigation.
Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said the department is actively investigating.
Any other student who may have receiving inappropriate text messages have been encouraged to contact school administrators or law enforcement.
Yarborough said that the teacher had worked at R.D. Anderson for four years and taught law enforcement at the school.
R.D. Anderson serves students from Spartanburg County School Districts 4, 5 and 6.
