There’s not a day that goes by without someone asking Rome Neal about his daughter Lia Neal, a world-class, record-setting international swimming star of whom he is so proud.

“Lia is doing so well,” Neal beams. “I’m so very proud of my young lady, now 21 years young.”

Amsterdam News photographer Bill Moore and I first met Lia when she was 8 years old and learning to swim. Now we congratulate her wins in the PAC-12 Championships: the 100 free (46.97), the 400 free relay (3:11.44), the 400 medley relay (3:26.25) and the 200 medley (1:34.15, and a second-place finish in the 50 free (21.88), making for an exciting weekend in Seattle.

I can’t wait to see her do her thing at the NCAA Swimming Championships in Atlanta March 16-19.
