Amity Baptist Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary in April with a series of events from April 16 to 24. For one century, the Amity Baptist Church has served God and the southeast Queens community via its various outreach ministries.

“We are celebrating our rich heritage and pressing forward in faith,” said the Rev. Jeffery S. Thompson, who has served as pastor for the past eight years.

The celebration will consist of a “100 Church Anniversary Parade” Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m. The celebration will include spirited and inspiring pre-anniversary worship services each Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. through April 13.

In addition, there will be a three-night revival service April 18 to 20, with the Rev. Herman Washington, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church of Rockville Center, serving as revivalist. A musical tribute Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. will feature the Amity Baptist Church Choirs and special internationally known guest artist Mari-Yan Pringle, best known for her role in “Porgy and Bess.”

The 100th Church Anniversary Banquet will be held at Antun’s Caterers of Queens Village, N.Y., Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Calvin Rice, pastor of New Jerusalem Worship Center of Jamaica, N.Y., as keynote speaker.

The anniversary celebration will culminate Sunday, April 24 with two worship services, 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Rev. Michael N. Harris, former pastor of the Wheat Street Baptist Church of Atlanta, will serve as the preacher for the morning service. The Rev. Darryl Frazier, pastor of the Majority Baptist Church of St. Albans, N.Y., will be the guest preacher for the afternoon celebration service.

All services, with the exception of the banquet, will be held at Amity Baptist Church, located at 164-18 108th Ave., Jamaica, N.Y.
